Field Sound Japan

Evan Salzbrenner recently got in touch to let me know that he has used some of my recordings on his website project called Field Sound Japan.  It’s a visually satisfying site allowing the visitor to trigger multiple audio recordings out of a choice of 11 and vary the volume of each to create a sound collage.

Evan points out that the project was inspired by another website, Noisli, which I was previously unaware of but can see the similarities.  Both are worth a visit if you want to mix your own combinations of background sounds.  He hopes to add additional sounds in the future.

Free Music Archive / World Listening Day field recording mix

To celebrate World Listening Day 2012 the Free Music Archive have put together a compilation of field recordings. I was excited to find that two of my recordings from Japan were included alongside some really great work.
You can stream or download the compilation here

To quote the World Listening Project website, World Listening Day takes place annually for the following purposes:

  • to celebrate different ways we can focus on our soundscape (sonic environment);
  • to raise awareness about the acoustic ecology movement, including ideas regarding how noise pollution can be reduced;
  • and to introduce new educational initiatives and community events related to listening and acoustic ecology.
