Fireworks! Double Locks Exeter
Field recordings of fireworks at the Double Locks pub in Exeter in November 2008.
Salcombe Regis
In October we went for a walk along the coast starting and ending at Salcombe Regis. On route we passed a secluded (and deserted) beach, which we subsequently learned was a naturist beach! I made a recording while climbing down the steps to the beach.Unfortunately my microphone picked up activity from my mobile phone part way through - hence the presence of some rough edits.
University of Exeter Outdoor swimming pool
A sunny afternoon at the University of Exeter outdoor swimming pool. These are my favourite recordings for a while. There are some hilarious little snippets of conversation to be heard amongst the splashing of divers.
Light summer rain in Exeter
The evening prior to a much larger downpour I had a chance to sit by the window and have a listen.
The abstract drone and hum of a fridge
Recordings of drone and hum inside a fridge freezer.
Exeter Respect 2008 Part 3
Flamenco guitarist at the Exeter Phoenix.
Recorded on 13th July 2008
Exeter Respect 2008 Part 2
Denis-Kigongos African Odyssey at this year's Exeter Respect Festival.
Recorded on 12 July 2008
Exeter Respect 2008 Part 1
Field recording of Indian Devotional music made at Exeter Respect festival 2008.
Industrial / Drone SP-404 Improv (2 parts)
An improvised industrial piece performed on Roland SP-404 sampler.
Thunder Storm
This is a thunder storm recording made during the day in our back garden.
Recorded on 17th November 2006.
Exeter Continental Market
The continental market comes to Exeter a few times a year, and recently it coincided with Exeter's Summer Festival. Anyway, this was a good opportunity to go out sound-hunting.
Recorded on 15th July 2006.
Jali Suso - Kora player
This was another performer I saw at the Exeter Respect Festival, playing the Kora. He was accompanied by two youngsters on guitar, which I thought a bit incongruous at the time but I really think the combination of instruments worked.
Recorded on 7th August 2006
Turkish Music at the Phoenix
On the weekend of 8 July, the Exeter Phoenix hosted the annual Respect Festival. Among the many performers was a guy playing Turkish folk songs on a Saz. I found the sound of the instrument and the vocal melodies hypnotic and compelling.
Parc Guell, Barcelona
Here are a couple more recordings from our visit to Barcelona in June 2006.
Montserrat Basilica Boy's Choir
The mountain of Montserrat near Barcelona is home to one of the oldest boys' choirs in Europe. Before our visit we'd read that the choir sing each day at 1pm. There was lengthy introduction given in numerous languages (can also be heard here) and the singing was definitely worth the visit.
Metro journey, Barcelona
We used the Barcelona Metro a lot during our visit in 2006, and I took this recording on our way back from Parc Guell to our 'pension' just off La Rambla. We were riding Linea 3 from Vallcarca to Liceu.
Classical guitarist at Parc Guell, Barcelona
Earlier this month we traveled to Barcelona for the Sonar Festival. After the festival was over, we had the chance to explore some of the sights we had missed during our last visit to the city a few years ago. The first of these was Parc Guell, designed by Antoni Gaudi.
Exeter Guildhall Shopping Centre.
The Guildhall isn't spectacular... but in this recording you can hear the traffic passing down Queen Street as well as the voices of shoppers passing beneath where I stood.
Haldon Forest
Haldon Forest lies along the top of the Haldon ridge. Recorded on 17 April 2006.
